BBC 2′s “Newsnight” recently polled viewers and asked them who has been Britain’s greatest (and worst) prime minister. No surprise that out of 27,000 votes, Winston Churchill came in at number 1. What I didn’t know was Churchill has one of the crappiest electoral records of all PMs. There’s hope for you yet, Mr. Bush. OK, that was a joke.
Nor was it surprising to find current PM Gordon Brown down there in last place, given the economic climate and the fact that citizens tend to be lukewarm about their current politicians.

It’s one of the great ironies of our ironic-loving nation that Churchill helped Britain (and its allies) win the war to protect our democratic rights… and we then quickly exercised them and voted him out.
