One thing I like about British men is they’re unafraid to wear bright colors. Not just bright colors, but colors like salmon, canary yellow, lime green, and grape soda in stripes, polka dots, and all sorts of odd textures. If you don’t believe me, check out the classic ties at Turnbull & Asser. There’s just no way a red-blooded American male would consider those ties “classic.”
Prepster males here in the U.S. possess this fearlessness about color — take classic madras patchwork shorts — but with them it feels more studied. And only an American guy with loads of self-confidence would wear pink suede loafers; that, or he’s gay. The straight British male seems more casual about the whole issue of color.
Anyway, I saw these pink loafers from Fin’s for Him. I love them. I’d love to buy a pair for my husband, but fear I’d be stuck with boring black, or if he were feeling adventurous, chocolate brown.
You British women don’t know how lucky you have it buying clothes for your men.
