Am Ab-Fab? Oh please

by Diana Burrell on October 7, 2008

Variety reports that Fox is developing a version of Absolutely Fabulous for American audiences. Now I know I railed about The Office the other day, and how I like both the American and British versions of the show and why does there has to be this argument about which one is better. But I’m sorry — developing an American version of Absolutely Fabulous is wrong, just plain wrong, maybe because the show is so, I don’t know, quintessentially English? I smell a stinker here. What do you think, Ab-Fab fans?

No way! It will never work. I don’t think that American versions of the characters will resonate with American viewers at all.

Something will be lost in translation, for sure. I’ve been reading the blogs on this today, and it seems that a lot of other bloggers think this is a dumb idea too.
