Can you guess the accent?

by Diana Burrell on October 15, 2008

Here’s a fun test to see how good you are at guessing where someone’s from based on their accent. Each speaker reads a few lines of Rudyard Kipling’s “If” then asks, “Can you guess where I’m from.” Not everyone’s from English-speaking countries, so it can be quite tricky. Let me know how you did in the comments!

Only 28 points. I only correctly identified the Americans, the Brits, the Canadian and the South African. The woman from Chicago, however, did not sound like she had an American accent.

I didn’t think she sounded American either, Catherine. That was a tricky one.

14 points, ugh! I defend myself as never having traveled to Europe.
